All the Way to PWC

Industrial Visit [13th July 2012 @ PricewaterhouseCoopers]

Firstly, let me proudly introduce the committee members of Industrial Visit 2012:

      PricewaterhouseCoopers is usually a place of dreams for most of the people. This time around we proudly made our ways in to have a tour and gain some knowledge from them. We were also assisted and welcomed by our own Seniors from UCSI who are currently doing their internship there. 

The event started on the 13^th of July 2012, 11.30am, where the registration started 

at Block A ground floor.

Since the event in PwC starts at 2.30pm only and we arrived at KL Sentral at 1pm, we allowed the participants to have a free activity during the free time. 

At 2pm, we gathered all the participants and started walking towards One Sentral, where PwC is located.

      We were greeted by Mr. Nizam at 2.30pm and were brought to the 10^th floor where all the meetings and interviews are usually hold. We were first introduced to the history of PwC on how PwC was formed. Later, Ms. Pin Pin briefed us about the services that the firm provides as well as shared with us on her working experience in PwC.

We were very fortunate to have ex-AFSA members, who are currently having internship in PwC, to give us a sharing session  on their experience with PwC, namely Ng Khai Yan and Elizabeth Kon.

After that, we had a short tea break outside the room. 

After the tea-break, our President of AFSA presented a token of appreciation to Mr. Nizam.

The event ended with a tour around the office.

With this group photo it marks the end for the day. Even though, some were exhausted but we were still glad as we had a great opportunity and an enjoyable time with everyone.

Great moment of SIDC Modules 2012

SIDC or Security Industry Development Corporation is the training and development arm of the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) and the leading capital markets education, training and information resource provider in ASEAN. Our Club, AFSA (Accounting & Finance Student Association) cross over ASSA (Actuarial Science Student Association) together organized a continuous of 4 SIDC modules.  

The SIDC opening ceremony ~ Cash @ Campus

Date: 14^th May 2012

Venue: MPH

Time: 2pm – 5pm

This is a kick starter of SIDC modules which combined with a small but informative talk, Cash@Campus. 

This talk is basically to instill an idea of “invest while we are young and strong” into student mind set. The talk consists of real world information which is very useful and critical. The speaker is Mr. Ooi Kok Hwa and he is the Managing Partner of MRR Consulting, dealing mainly with business, adviser, investment and financial training. He is a very great man with a lot of success. In this talk, he told us his way of investing and the do’s and don'ts.

LESSON OF THE DAY:  Be initiative in gathering information and "EARN YOUNG! RETIRE YOUNG!"

Module 1 & 2 ~ Financial Planning: Putting Financial Theory into Practice & The practice of Wealth Management.

Date : 19th May 2012 & 9th June 2012

Venue : Recital hall

Time : 8am – 5pm

This module is conducted by Mr.KP Bose Dasan, a tax consultant and a certified financial planner. He is a very great man with a very good communication skills. During the talk, he uses “small group” method to approach student. He break up all the participants into few small group and gave every group to do some activities. The talk is all about how we apply our financial theory into practical usage and how we practiced it. This talk is suitable even for non-finance background student because the theory taught is a basic one yet fundamental. It was a great talk because it is not just a financial talk but also a motivational talk.

Module 3 ~ Portfolio Management: Designing an Equity Strategy

Date: 16th June 2012

Venue: Recital Hall

Time: 8am-5pm

This module is quite similar with Cash @ Campus which is about investing plan. This module’s speaker is Mr. Thomas Chan, a Certified Financial Planner and also a Fund Manager Representative. We are glad to have him present as a speaker that day. He provided a lot of information to us and also ideas on how to plan our investment plan.

LESSON OF THE DAY: Plan Smart, Invest Hard !

Module 4 ~ Portfolio Management: In Pursuit of Performance and Returns

Date: 30th June 2012

Venue: Recital Hall

Time: 9.30am - 5pm

This is the final module of the whole SIDC modules that we organized. In this module the speaker is Dr.Nazri Khan and he is a licensed Investment Adviser representative and also full with experience as an equity analyst. In this talk we really gain a lot of information about the real world market and also how to analyze the market.

Once again SIDC 2012 managed to attract a huge number of people to participate and turn it lively. Hope it has helped everyone in many ways to improve yourself and be a better person in the near future.

The Big Family

McD Olympic Day Fun Run 2012

Date: 8th July 2012
Time: 7.30am
Venue: Dataran Merdeka

A friendly bonding session among all the AFSA central committees (CC), organizing committees (OC), members and uni mates on a lazy Sunday. With the theme 'That is what I eat and what I do', they completed the 7km marathon with other thousands of runners. Weee~~~~ :)
 
Sunday may be a day for everyone to sleep tight on their cozy bed hugging their bolster but these bunch of hyperactive AFSA-ians had gathered at McD Taman Conought at 5am...WOW!!! They departed from there with 12 cars for this marathon trip. CAN YOU IMAGINE that!

Throughout the race, many of them felt tired and wanted to stop or just walk but the encouragement and hope from each other kept them going till the very end of Victory Line.
